Today we will be working with a professional photographer called Jemma Mellor. Jemma will help us to create original images that are genre specific for our magazines. To prepare for the photoshoot, I have looked at previous Hip Hop magazine covers to give me some design inspiration and ideas about what my front cover could look like if I am to make a realistic product that fulfills the needs of my target audience. I also brought in props such as rings, chains and a watch to make my pictures represent the expected look associated with the Hip Hop genre. Jemma will also be able to help me with the composition and framing of my pictures as she is a professional photographer she may suggest different poses, stances and angles for my photos again to help me represent the genre. The fact that I will be working with a photographer, will definitely benefit my magazine cover and teach me many new skills.
Firstly, the girls in the group had pictures first, so I had the job of using the cannon DSLR camera to take pictures of them. I took a different range of pictures and I used different lighting to construct the best possible pictures that I could. At first, I was taking pictures with the camera on the tripod, so that I could get some long shots that would suit a double page spread, then I took the camera of the stand and got some close ups of the girls. I changed the angle of the camera to benefit different types of moods and atmospheres that they wanted to represent. While I was taking pictures, I had to communicate with the girls.
Next, it was my turn to get photos done of me. The magazine genre I'm doing is Hip Hop, so I had brought in genre specific props such as a watch, rings and chains to make the photo shoot more related to the genre.of the magazine. I had gathered some pictures that had inspired me to make similar pictures. The professional photographer talked me through how to position myself and and where to look. I also had to use different facial expressions to get many different range of photos.
