My own School Magazine Planning - Codes and Conventions
The colours I have incorporated in my magazine are blues,
whites, reds and yellows because these are my chosen house colours and are associated
with the identity of Archbishop Ilsley. I am going to use the same background colours
throughout the magazine so that the colours remain constant throughout the magazine, making
the magazine look more professional and to ensure that my magazine resembles Archbishop Ilsley on every page and becomes memorable.
I have also used the school logo on every page of the
magazine because the school logo shows that the magazine is about Archbishop Ilsley. The logo is the main reason as to why people will be able to see that
my school magazine is about Archbishop Ilsley. I have also included Archbishop Ilsley’s social media links because the internet is used by most people
in this day and age therefore they will
be able to access more information about the school by following them on social
networking sites. They will also be updated with any new information on Archbishop Ilsley’s social media sites.
The masthead of my magazine is “Inside Ilsley” I have
decided to use this as my masthead because it uses alliteration which makes it
catchy and easy for people to remember. I have also used this masthead because
it gives an overview of what my magazine is going to be about, It tells the
reader instantly that the magazine is about Ilsley and that it’s about what Ilsley have to offer to the reader and target audience. My masthead is also
short and sharp so it is easy to remember and so it gets stuck in the readers' head.
The main picture on my school magazine is of a student
called James Coleman running. I have decided that I was going to use this image
because in the picture he is really happy and looks like he is enjoying
himself. This is important because the reader will see that the student is
having fun and it looks like he is enjoying his time at school. I have also used
this image because it shows that the school is very sporty and has a specific
smart uniform for physical activity.
Magazine Evaluation
This is my final draft of my own school magazine for
archbishop ilsley. As you can see its a complete product.
The name i have chosen for my magazine is 'Inside ilsley.' I have chosen this title because it is catchy, simple and easy to associate with archbishop ilsley. The font is black as it is bold and clear to see against the blue and white background; the masthead is easy to understand when the background is lighter. This is helps the school,l to gain a sense of recognition.also used this masthead because it gives an overview of what my magazine is going to be about, It tells the reader instantly that the magazine is about Ilsley and that it’s about what Ilsley have to offer to the reader and target audience. My masthead is also short and sharp so it is easy to remember and so it gets stuck in the readers' head.
My target audience would be school aged students, this means
it will cater for children between the age of 11-18. There would also have a
second audience that would consist of teachers, ex students and parents. This
age group would be majority older than students.
The school slogan has been placed below the Masthead. This
is done to remind anyone reading what the school repersents and stands by. The
motto is there to encourage students to try their best and use the support and
guidance given to them.

Contents Page Evaluation
There are two different images on the right side. I have used these images as they show various
activities and other events within school. Each image focuses on the topics
that are included in the magazine. In addition, there are page numbers on the
bottom left as this indicates what topic it links to and on what page.
On the left side, it has four different categories. Each
category is separated and has its own page. These topics have little number pages next to them to tell the reader what is going to be included and it is also done to
encourage the audience to read more about it.
In the bottom left i have used a sellers point. This page is where i am giving back to the reader by including them in activities to do inside my magazine. This encourages the audience to be a active audience in which they could win prizes.
Progress
ReplyDeleteMinimal work completed so far
Minimal planning and research evidence complete
No evidenced research into similar products and no discussion concerning a potential target audience
Evidence of minimal work on drafting flat plans
Basic level of care in the presentation of the research and planning
Time management poor
Action:
Change the style of your blog page so that it is more creative/linked to your personality/subject
Add in discussion of target audience - Could you record/film some of your audience feedback?
Add in some analysis of suitable images that could be used i.e camera angle, use of colour, suitability of shot/action
Ensure that analysis of other exisiting products is detailed - analyse at least two school magazine covers and two contents pages
Upload flat plans of cover and contents page
Evaluate progress made
